“We are seeing the benefits of a 98% improvement in productivity of our stock-take process, and also a higher inventory accuracy level,” commented Ms. Nur Akmar Bt Muslim, Director and CEO of Emas Seri Nur, a leading customised jewellery family-run business.

Using a RFID handheld scanner for cycle counting allows Emas Seri Nur to speedily and accurately determine current stocks level in real-time. The inventory report reflects each SKU and its location/outlet with a time-stamp, facilitating timely stocks replenishments, preventing stock-outs and lost sales.

Before implementing SATO RFID Inventory management system, they needed to take 20 minutes to scan each jewellery tray. Now, with RFID implementation, it only takes them 20 seconds to complete the same stock-take process.

“Our staff can now focus on serving and engaging customers, maximising the in-store shopper experience, thereby driving sales and revenue,” Ms. Nur says.

This success case study proves that RFID solutions are not just increasingly being adopted in high technology or big company processes, but also in local niche market segments. If you are not sure whether your business will benefit widely from RFID, read on to understand more.

The advantages of an RFID system versus just a Barcode system are:

·       Operational and Labour Efficiencies

With RFID system, the stock-taking process is speedier and more efficient, with improvements in inventory accuracy.

·       Safety and Security for Staff and Valuable Merchandise

The safety of staff and security of valuable jewellery are safeguarded as there is no longer a need for lengthy and laborious stock-takes in the evenings after retail hours when the store closes.

·       Overtime cost savings

Replacing barcode with RFID technology has resulted in less overtime requirements for stock-take, which helped Emas Seri Nur save on manpower needs and overtime costs.

What is RFID?

RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. This means that radio frequency is used to capture and identify the information. Why is it faster than barcode reading? Unlike barcodes, RFID labels/tags do not require line of sight for readability, can read long distances of up to 5 meters, reads faster and more accurately.

Furthermore, you can also have data encryption at the RFID level. Although RFID tagging is more expensive than barcodes alone, the efficiency and security that you can obtain, makes this truly a technology for you to compete in the digital age and safeguard your merchandise.

All SATO's printers fully support GS1 standards to create barcode, 2D code, RFID encoded data that is recognizable by various devices and software.
